...by a country mile.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

reply

This is definitely my favorite Disney movie. Snow White might be the one that made the biggest impact, but this one is still my favorite.

For the longest time I thought it was, then I liked some other disney films, but Pinocchio had such a cinematic effect over me, I guess the way that Disney REALLY pushed animation so far that it could hold candle to the likes of Orson Welles or Fritz Lang.

This may sound odd, coming from a devoted fan of cruel exploitation films [ Addio Zio Tom, Mandingo, Salo: 120 Days Of Sodom, Cannibal Holocaust, I Spit On Your Grave, Singapore Sling '90, etc. ], but Pinnochio may be my favorite film of all time... and not because it's probably the first movie i ever saw.

Pinnochio is a candidate for perfect cinema. On a technical level, it literally has no flaws. Despite the story being re-written, it's a fantastic re-write that perfectly fits the animation style [ The ultra-surreal original has yet to make it to the big screen in any form, i believe ]. No other Di$ney film has the emotional power of Pinnochio, nor such beautiful, thoroughly developed characters. I could go on and on. In short: An Absolute Masterpiece!!! =D

I didn't think I would find a fellow exploit/grindhouse fan on THIS board...but I agree with your post. Pinocchio is a true masterpiece, and I think it has a very dark, and sinister vibe, that you see if you have imagination. I'm sure it's one thing I love about it. Other than that, this was the only Disney film that I could really relate to; as a guy I couldn't really connect with characters like Snow White or Cinderella. But the story of the little boy running away from home and being rebellious, wanting to smoke and drink and live in an amusement park..that struck a chord with me at a very young age. Is it the best Disney film ever made? I don't really know..but it is definitely the coolest and strangest of all time.

I am the king of Disney movies and i feel to me this is the best. It made such an impact on me, that not any other movie has made me feel. I seriously think this is even better than the godfather.

It's in my Top 3 Disney movies.

1. 101 Dalmatians
2. Mary Poppins
3. Pinocchio

It is my favorite Disney Film. It's a beautiful movie with the most incredible animation ever.

If it's not for me, definitely in the top TWO! Can you imagine it gets an IMDB
rating of 7.7 from the users? Crazy...... Some people just don't like great stuff.

reply

I'll say. I gave it a 10, baby!!

reply

babyfir77, I know your post is kinda old but I have to say something - a 7.7 rating on IMDb isn't bad AT ALL - the users are pretty harsh when they rate and a 7.7 is quite good honestly. The voting system is generally harsher than most websites I've come across. It's a miracle if a movie gets an 8.0.

Seeing yesterday the dull Junglebook, Pinocchio certainly was a positive surprise - and superior to the princess stuff with the questionable morales where looks are everything. A lot darker than I thought, resembling the Grimm's stories. But of Disneys, I'd still prefer Lion King.

reply

I like the Liuon King, but it's too new, to be an all time great, if that makes sense.

reply

That makes sense, most people probably think like that, giving extra benefits for the age. Be we should be able to get rid of the extra glamour of time, and analyze films back-to-back. Not technically, but storywise, and character-wise. Easy one here: today I saw Bambi and was quite disappointed. Bambi doesn't grow at all in contrast to Pinocchio, and for Pinocchio it had to go to extremes to happen. Bambi's mother's death doesn't affect Bambi at all. But how's about Lion King? Did they get that over with in 2 seconds, singing merrily, just forgetting it right away?

reply

That's very true. Bambi, after the death scene, goes into the 'Sunshine Lollipops' flavour way too quickly. That's why I prefer the Lion King to Bambi, because the producers give Simba a chance to mourn over Mufasa (teary-eyed enough for me), and when Pinocchio dies (he does get resurrected eventually), sorry to bring that up, but the film gives Gepetto, Jiminy and the pets for a brief mourning. I cried at that scene. When the fairy gives him an extra life, I still had tears in my eyes (but also felt happy at the same time), I mean listen to that lovely music! I also prefer Pinocchio to Bambi
I should also mention Tod's mom's death in the Fox & The Hound, which is another film I prefer to Bambi. That too was better than Bambi's death scene, because that gave viewers a chance to feel emotions for Tod, when that Owl looked shocked and solemn, and then attracted Tweed's attention.
Bambi's death scene was nothing but a simple 'you're mother can't be with you anymore' from Bambi's pop. There was hardly much to it.
So you have a very good point
