One thing I don't get

Cary Grant's character is persuaded to help the two reporters get the story to save Tracey's father from having his scandalous affair exposed. But why would he care if his ex-father-in-law is disgraced in the press? It makes no sense.

reply

He's very clearly still quite fond of the family and in love with Tracy, and didn't want to see any of them hurt or publicly embarrassed.

Also . . . it may have been C. K.'s way for ingratiating himself back in Tracy's good graces . . .

reply

Possibly, but if so, it would involve his expectation of giving away the secret at some point before the wedding. The plan at the beginning was that Tracy and the family weren't to know about Kidd's blackmail. Maybe he just assumed Tracy's intelligence would allow her to smell a rat before long, and never really thought they'd get away with it. He did give in pretty quickly when she pressed him about Liz and Connor.
