Best part of the movie, IMO: Dinah

I loved that kid! I'm actually not particularly fond of children, and I find most child actors to just be annoying. They overdo the 'cute' and 'precocious' bit and come across as completely unrealistic (and did I mention, annoying?). But Weidler was funny and 'wise beyond her years' in a way that wasn't obnoxious.

^ Agree.

Not only is she very good, but you really believe her as ms Hepburns sister....

It is not our abilities that show who we truly are...it is our choices

reply

Yes, I agree...she was perfect for it.

reply

I love it when she sings "Lydia The Tattooed Lady", she is hysterical!!! And the way she speaks french and wears the ballet slippers, I just love her!!

reply

Agreed, child actors can get annoying pretty quickly but I liked Dinah :)

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

I believe Hepburne was the best part of this movie, but Dinah was exceptional and adorable.

Virgina Weidler was one of my favorite child actors and she was never better than she was here. What a shame the studios didn't recognize her potential bec she was rarely cast in a similar roles, although she was was very good in The Great Man Votes. Most her roles were better suited to the likes of Temple and
O'Brian.

She really was great in this. It's a pity she didn't have more of a film career, and that she passed away so young.

reply

She was the WORST part of the movie, IMHO. She got on my damn nerves so much. I despise children who don't know their place and she fit that mold to a T in this film

I think I need a barber! None of these N!66az can fade me!

reply

That was superb acting. She was supposed to act precocious and obnoxious when she met the reporters. I thought she was a hoot!

reply

Even before the reporters got there with her whole, "don't you think it's stinky not to want father here?" "Oh, it won't rain. Tracy won't let it." Her love for tabloids, her being so nosey, etc just annoyed me. I didn't say she was a bad actress. Just the character annoyed me. She'd probably annoy me in a book. I bought the play but I haven't read it yet

The best word I can think of here is delightful. And I totally agree about child actors. They try too hard. But did anybody else notice she was on pointe? I'm no ballerina, but everybody else in my family is, and I know that it takes insane talent to do that especially for how long she did it. Not to mention her age.

"I'm going crazy. I'm standing here solidly on my own two hands and going crazy."

reply

Her turn at flummoxing the interloping reporters was hysterical. I really liked the way she handled herself in a couple of the other scenes, where's she's not quite old enough to drink but knows that she wants to hang with the rest of the grown-ups and also the way she was trying to figure out whether she should sit on the innuendo of Tracy and Mike having (so she thought) gone all the way the night before the wedding and was Mike going to make an "honest woman" of Tracy or was she (Dinah) going to have to stand up when the preacher said "if anyone present knows any reason why this couple should not be joined in holy matrimony..."

reply

Agree with all here. She was so funny at the end when she said, "I did it! I did it all!", with that triumphant glimmer.
