Ages Of The Characters (Per Barry's Play)

For those yet curious about the age difference between Dinah and Tracy, I just dug up a copy of the play. The characters are described thus:

Dinah is “all of fifteen years old.”

Tracy is “a strikingly lovely girl of twenty-four.”

Margaret Lord is “a young and smart forty-seven.”

Alexander “Sandy” Lord is twenty-six.

Uncle Willy Tracy is sixty-two.

Mike Connor is thirty.

Liz Imbrie is twenty-eight.

Mac The Night Watchman is thirty.

George Kittredge is thirty-two.

Dexter is twenty-eight. "Pleasant and good-looking."

Seth is "tall, handsome, suave. Fifty."

I looked that up myself, a while back.

Seems they went younger for Dinah and older for Mac the night watchman in the film, but all the rest are about the same.

We know Connor is the same age:

And how old are you, Mr. Connor?
Thirty.
One book isn't much for a man of 30.

reply

True. I read the play though also, and not much else was different about Mac other than his age. 

Somehow I don't buy Margaret on film as being 47 years old, though.
