People who have watched this movie...

First of all let me just say that this movie had the best cast EVER. Even if you put Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep in a movie you will still be far from achieving the level of acting and quality that these three actors have individually and even more so together.

I'm just curious how old is the majority of the people who like this movie and also where they're from.

I'm 17 and I'm from Spain.

reply

23 from the US, but I've been watching it a good half dozen times a year at least since I was 17 or so.

reply

20 from Long Island. 1st saw the movie on TCM about two years ago and have watched at least ten times since.

How wonderful that all of us who have responded so far are so young (no disrespect meant to the internet-savvy octogenarians perusing the site): it is a testament to the immortality of art. In case anyone else has discovered the joy of this movie without being aware of its peers, I have some recommendations, which I will try to give in order of greatness, though, as with all things great, the ranking system breaks down after 2 or 3:

Bringing Up Baby
Harvey
The Rules of the Game (subtitled, but for the love of god don't let that put you off)
His Girl Friday
My Man Godfrey
The Third Man
Casablanca
The Thin Man
It Happened One Night

reply

Wyate-1, I've seen 'em all and loved every one.

May I recommend to you:

To Have and Have Not
One, Two, Three
The More the Merrier
Holiday (another Cary & Katharine flick)
Only Angels Have Wings
Ball of Fire
The Shop Around the Corner
Sullivan's Travels
The Major and the Minor

One, Two, Three is a great movie! On my top ten list along with Philadelphia Story and The Maltese Falcon. All the ones everyone has listed has been wonderful.

I love so many of the movies from the 30s and 40s especially. Katherine Hepburn and Myrna Loy are my favorite actresses. I have so many favorite actors - Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, William Powell, Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Spencer Tracy, John Howard, George Brent, Errol Flynn...I could go on. Each for different reasons. I think these years were the golden age of movies.

I am 58 here in 2014. I watched the old movies with my mom on TV when I was a child and my husband and I have TCM as our number one channel. I do like many current actors such as Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford, but now with the computer generated movies so much is lost. The actors that come close to the greats of the past are Hanks, Ford, Leonardo DiCaprio. But many now just seem to go through the motions and the big screen computer generated stuff covers for the lack of plot and storyline.

I'm 18. I just saw this movie for the first time (though it's been on my to watch list since i was 12)...I absolutely adored it. James Stewart is my favorite actor, and I think this was one of his best roles. I'm also very glad to see that other young people enjoyed this film. I know many people who won't watch old movies, and they really are missing out on the best films of all time.

I'm 32 and in 1996 I started watching AMC and nothing else. Grant's movie's were the best and I've watched this at least 25 times. It never gets old. Movies carried by their acting not special effects and locations. The golden age of hollywood indeed. The same way sports suck now. All steroids no talent. 1 year of training and drugs and I might not be the best, but I could compete no a professional level in any sport.

The Philadelphia Story is the first black and white movie I've ever seen and I loved it right away. It's one of those movies I could watch milion times. It has to be one of my 2 favourite movies. The scene with Tracy and Mike after the party is also one of my all time favourites.
