Reasonable dvd

Are any of the DVDs available for this film of reasonable quality? Please let me know!

Be careful, I ordered one off of ebay and it was terrible, looked like someone had set up a cheap video camera inf ront of a tv. No sound, totally unwatchable picture.

~ The condition of the dvd is really awful. I am surprised that it was not remastered.

The DVD quality is pretty bad, but it's better to have it in this form than no form at all. I'm glad we can see Martha Scott's performance since she was in the play, and a young William Holden.

It won't be remastered because the original negative no longer exists and the film is in the public domain.

FYI I found the picture quality of the DVD okay, but the sound pretty terrible. It was often too loud with the music overwhelming the text. Also, it was difficult to understand a couple of the actresses, particularly with the New Hampshire accents they were affecting. Nevertheless, I found it moving and worth seeing.

I've just watched this from the Mill Creek Family favourites box set and although the picture is very poor at least the sound wasn't too bad. I had another copy that was given away with a newspaper and the sound was much worse.

I watched it yesterday for the first time. I bought the DVD from Amazon. $9.95 at this time-

The quality is not great- the picture is sometimes not good and there are occasional static sounds. The reasons for the poor quality DVD are explained in detail on the trivia page.

I wonder how they acheved the glowing semi-transparent imagery of Emily at the end of the film. How was that done? This was made in 1940.

I'm glad I bought it solely because of the play and the place this film has in history.

I was disappointed though. I imagine a good live theatrical production would be better.

It also made me appreciate 21st century life more. We have far more options for living our lives than the characters in Our Town.

The print showing now on TCM is the best I have ever seen. It seems some work was done on it.

I have a version released by a British company called Classic Entertainment (2004).
It is one of the films on 3 CLASSICS OF THE SILVER SCREEN VOL. 7 . Also included are The Star Packer a 1934 B Western starring John Wayne and Rocketship X-M a science fiction film from 1950. The picture quality of Our Town was poor but watchable.
