Martha Scott

She drove me nuts all the way thru the film! She was so whiny!!!

Was it Martha or the scrpt? She was very good.

Then three out of four of us completely agree that Martha Scott is excellent in "Our Town" and delivers one of the finest performances in film history here.

The Play is downbeat, but the Screenstory is a little less whiny, and Martha, William and company shine as they make it all very interesting with their lovely characterizations and refreshing takes on their characters.

Gosh. I feel exactly the same way -- as I read your silly thread.

And Martha showed a lot more restraint of emotion than you did with your !!!

Sheesh.

Whatever made you think this would be of interest to anyone here?

You're just talking to yourself in a public place, really.

If you don't like her character, you can blame Thornton Wilder, or maybe the Pulitzer Prize committee that awarded Our Town the 1938 Drama Prize. She was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance.

She was nominated for an Oscar as best actress.

For maybe the fifth time in my career, I'm going against the mainstream. I agree with lynchboy, except that I think Martha Scott's performance was one corny affectation after another. Like her college major was method acting but she dropped out after freshman year. And didn't read the syllabus. And didn't understand that Melodrama 101 was supposed to be teaching her what NOT to do in a movie.

Yikes.
