A few Questions that I need help on...

ok well, i've been studying our town for a while now and I have some questions...

Why does Wilder manipulate time and what are some parts in the play where he does?
How does Wilder's dependence on emotion rather than suspense?
How do characters in our town live blinded to the wonder of life?
What is the significance of death in Our Town?

I would greatly appriciate it if anyone has any answers to any of my questions, to post them...

Studying? I don't think you even read/saw it!

Wilder manipulates time to show that time is a valuable precious thing that cannot be wasted.
Emotion can portray scenes better than suspense because suspense you know what is happening after it. Emotion you don't always know if the character is going to cry or laugh.
Everyone lives life blinded. In the play they really emphasize that they are living life without knowing how to REALLY live life.
Death is almost like a re-birth. This is when they realize that they didn't live their life and now they have no way to re-live it.

We are doing this for our school play and I am playig the lead Emily, so I have been studying the script.

Seems to me like these are questions for a paper you have to write for school! Read the play, see a video, study hard and do your own damn homework! Don't come to us to get your answers!

You have got to be kidding. If someone doesn't understand something, they go to those who do. Whether it be what someone has written down somewhere, or verbal discussion. You don't have to 'give' someone the answers in a discussion. You give them enough to think about it, and come to their own conclusions. How very charitable, I'd love to see how you would help your kids with their homework when they don't grasp the concepts.

"How do characters in our town live blinded to the wonder of life? "
It's kind of obvious. They are living in real time with no added insight.

Considering that the questions were posed 4 years ago, and never revisited, I'd venture that our OP has either long forgotten or is planted out back of Grover's Corners...

reply

Could be....but they still may be getting response notifications sent to their email..and actually return to see what's been written. ;)

Uhm....the past is the past, let it stay there.

It should be obvious that the OP was just trying to glean answers for a homework assignment. "Why does Wilder manipulate time and what are some parts in the play where he does?" The 2nd part of the question could easily be answered if he were familiar with the play. He didn't even copy question #2 correctly as it makes no sense as written: "How does Wilder's dependence on emotion rather than suspense?"
Lastly, he registered on the day he posted and has not posted since.

I don't think I want to go to the pictures. Oh?Why not? I've seen everything worth seeing.

I agree with you. This poster was just trying to get out of doing a homework assignment!

reply

I concur. Sounds like an assignment...probably out of school by now.
