While on the run after the raid, why didn't they....

After the gnarly stew scene, two lone survivors from Grant's detachment approach and say they shot a moose but they say the French heard the shot. One man says the other insisted on cooking the moose, and they were captured by the French. This man blamed the other, saying if they had eaten the moose raw they wouldn't have been caught.

However Rogers' detachment didn't have any problems making a fire to cook the stew, they didn't seem to be concerned about the fire giving away their position. So obviously it was the shot that gave away the position of Grant's detachment rather than the fire.

So my question is, if any gunfire would result in discovery and capture...why didn't any of these men think to use a bow and arrow to shoot the moose, or any other game?

- A bow is quiet and deadly
- The Rangers would certainly know how to make a bow and use it
- The Native American scouts would also be adept with a bow
