Funniest moment (slight spoilers)

Having bemoaned how boring Mein Kampf was, Chateris uses the book to mask the face of one of the two German soldiers he and Caldicott lock up and steal the uniforms of in order to help Gus Bennett. What's so funny about this scene is that Mein Kampf is reputed to be very boring; I've never read it but this is its reputation.

Anyway, a stroke of genius.

The distance is nothing. The first step is the hardest.

I thought it was funny when the minor official is grilling the guy about, "You are accused of saying 'THIS is a fine country to live in!'" and the guy replies, "No, what I said was 'This is a FINE country to live in.'" The accused is excused...and the minor official is trying to sound out the differences, and concludes (under his breath) "This is a bloody rotten country to live in."
