Were the Roth's supposed to be Jewish?

The scene where Ward Bond is questioning Freya Roth, Bond says something like, "Your name doesn't sound so good to German ears." Yet, the Roth brothers were members of the Nazi party.

reply

Professor Roth was the stepfather of the boys, including Rudy. He was not their biological father, thus his sons were "Aryan." Professor Roth, of course, was Jewish.

reply

Ah. Thank you. I missed the first couple of minutes of the movie. Was it explained then?

reply

NOT REALLY, BUT IT WAS INFERRED.

IF YOU CHECK OUT THE BOOK, IT IS MADE CLEAR THAT THE FAMILY OBVIOUSLY JEWISH.

reply

Professor Roth was stepfather of the older boys only. Rudy and Freya were his own children.

reply

Yes. When his wife vidits Prof Roth st the concentration camp, the letter "J" appears on the sleeves of his shirt.

reply

The 2 older sons are stepsons, from Mrs. Roth's first marriage. Their last name is Von Rohn, not Roth (confirmed in cast credits).
