Great Film ... Ruined by Horrible Ending

I love the films that show the Nazification of German society. In my mind it is the most fascinating aspect of WW2 (how did these horrible hateful people take power).

Watching this film I kept thinking this is much better than I anticipated ... this may be one of those 1940 films that stands up to the test of time ... that is not the overly preachy propaganda of the 1940's.

BOY WAS I WRONG! Talk about an over-dramatic ending that ruins the bloody film! And the very ending ... with the Christian poetry and the gate in the falling snow? I listened to the words twice to try to understand ... my take ... totally irrelevant!
