Skiing in a fedora.

Does anyone actually do that? Wouldn't it blow off?

reply

I noticed that they were using telemark skis (similar to x-country skis) that my Norwegian college friends used when we went skiing in the 1980s. You don't go as fast as in these skis as you do on downhill skis (i.e., kneel down on the inside edge when turning...I think inside?).

So, no. I don't think a fedora-type hat would go flying off.

But they were "flying" on the skis in the film so that was pretty stupid.

More so, Freya like to ski without a coat ... and some skin showing on her legs. That too was pretty silly

reply

I don't remember them "flying." I do remember them skiing downhill in what would surely be powder. No flying through that on telemark skis. Avalanches would be the biggest worry, if it were daylight.

As far as showing some skin, I assume she was wearing nude stockings/tights, as was the custom during the time of the filming.

You might want to watch again ... skin and no coat ... who skies like that?

reply

I have watched this film numerous times and she was wearing flesh-colored tights. It wasn't until the 1970's that movies would even dare put women on screen without some sort of hosiery (with the possible exception of Esther Williams, although I suspect some covering was used to make the other women's legs appear flawless).

Also, until the 1980's most women were required to wear hosiery with skirts and dresses at their jobs. I know this because I worked retail, corporate, and restaurant, and they actually had strict dress codes.
