Creepy celebration of lying (spoilers)

I actually found Plumfield to be quite creepy in this version, and I even found Dan to be the most normal person of the bunch. Most telling of all, the film ends with the adults lying to all the children about Dan's dad, his criminal friend, and the arresting officer. (That's after lying about "the stork", as if you can or should keep the facts of life a secret on a farm). I'm glad lying isn't considered cute any more.

I don't think they were trying to portray lying as 'cute'. It's just a matter of telling children what's appropriate for them to know. I don't think in that situation there was any need for them to tell the boy about his father or the other kids what was going on in his life; especially in light of what had just happened.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Something similar occurred on Dr. Quinn, where Sully told Matthew the truth about his father would only hurt and it was best he and the other kids not know.
