Venus

In a scene where Glenn Ford and Rita Hayworth are on the rooftop looking at the stars,
Ford says that before she leaves she must see Venus. He says the Greeks called it 'Galastow'
meaning the most beautiful ?

Surely they called it Phosphoros/Eosphoros/ Hesperus /Vesper or even Aphrodite
(The Greek version of Venus )

What does he mean - Anyone know ?

.

Surely you have found this out by now, but Ford says they called it Callisto, or most beautiful, which is actually a moon of Jupiter. Perhaps he had his facts mixed up, or perhaps this is a bit of poetic license. Nice early Rita vehicle, by the way!

Thank you for replying. Nice to know some question don't go unanswered.

Although, actually, Glenn Ford's character was correct about the definition of "Callisto":

Although the myth of Callisto herself doesn't have anything to do with Aphrodite/Venus, but rather Artemis/Diana. Callisto, like most women who caught Zeus' eye and Hera's detection, had a very rough time.
