The Gipper's runs

When they were showing the touchdown runs by the Gipper, I noticed the numbers on the jersey of the runner(s) was different every time. And sometimes the jerseys had no numbers. It was obvious that only the last run (with the freeeze frame) was actually Reagan. If ND had that many good runners, why was Gipp needed so badly ("If we only had a halfback...")
I'm an advocate of "It's only a movie...", but it would have been nice to see some actual footage of Gipp so we see how good he was.

I assumed some of those runs/passes were Gipp, but as you say the numbers were different?

"He sent the rain."
"Who sent the fire?"

This was a big mistake. You realize that in most sports movies stock footage of games will be used, but how could it not be noticed that when we see Ronald Reagan as Gipp that he had no number on his back, yet in all the footage every player wore a number.

The uniform numbers weren't the only ones that were off. When ND was on the 20 yd-line, too many yard markers were passed on the way to the goal. But they didn't have arrows on the lines back then and they could have been on their own twenty. The film seldom showed the big picture of the field.
