Great Message - Fine Story - Excellent Film

Can someone who has the DVD put the full script of the scene of Tom Foyle (Kitty's father) talking to her about Cinderella and spending time 'watching' the "Main Liners" of Philadelphia?

Had never seen this until last night on TCM and it's a true gem. Ginger Rogers was great in expressing a full range and she sure looked cute as a teenager. Loved the way the director caught her insouciance and longing as teen with the hot air vent blowing up her skirt a la M Monroe in Seven year itch.

These are types of film we as a society truly miss. Why doesn't hollywood choose to make movies such as this? Can anyone think of a film in the last twenty years that was set in contemporary time with such story telling?

Interestingly, the novel has all of that and more... but the storyline would still be lost, as the OP suggested...

It was a great film. And Ginger and Dennis were great. However, while Ginger was beautiful, she never looked like a teenager, as she was supposed to be in a very small part of the film.

I can't think of a similar film. You have "Working Girl" in 1988, which portrays a working woman, but that's as different a film from this as night and day. Feel good romantic movies like "Kitty Foyle" are not made anymore.

I'm not entirely sure if Kitty Foyle had a great message. Although Kitty was deeply in love with Wyn in the end she had to face the fact that their class divide was too strong, a factor as to why Kitty chose Mark. That's why I saw the finale with a tinge of tragedy.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

She knew that Wyn would never be able to divorce and was too influenced by his family all along. She was unwilling to be his mistress so decided instead to become the wife of a man who loved her. This time, she made the wise choice.

For folks here who think Ginger didn't play a teenager well in Kitty, I suggest watching her play an even younger girl in 1942's The Major and the Minor. She did much better at that role in Major.

Stupid!?! I never called you stupid! To call you stupid would be an insult to stupid people!
