Jud Suss Essay

Watching this notorious film had a big impact on me. FWIW, essay, linked below. Would love to receive intelligent comments: http://www.thescreamonline.com/film/confessions/judsuss.html

Well, it's drivel. Far too long. It doesn't tell me anything about the film that I didn't know already. The idea of presenting it as a dialogue doesn't work because the people speak in lengthy well-punctuated paragraphs, so it's just pointless. There's no solid research. Chapter one is a waste of time.

"How many times have I been told that I can't get a fellowship or a tenure-track job, that I can't publish, because I'm not the ethnicity the Ivory Tower rewards?"

It's because you aren't a very good writer. A good writer would produce a fascinating essay and not give a damn what random people on the IMDB think about it. He or she would have no trouble attracting publishers. There's always room for a contrary opinion; newspaper columnists thrive on that kind of thing.

The essay makes me think of teachers, university lecturers, instructors in non-technical fields. People who have it, use it; those who haven't got it, teach.

They teach the outline of a thing. They teach the shadow of a thing. They do not teach the thing.

You're being cruel. You obviously didn't enjoy the essay — that's fine. But other readers might like it. I do.
I do because the narrator is a good observer. And I find it exceptionally brave to admit being smitten by Jud Süß.

really i don't want to be negative but:

because you spent so long talking about you and not about the film, not even about how/why it affected you, it meant that i did not read it to the end.

nobody talks like that, that is not a conversation.

What a load of self-absorbed crap!
