Vera Zorina

It is hard to believe this actress was not a bigger star. She had it all. Very attractive, tall, very fit body, can act and a great dancer.

If I ever watch this very good film ever, I will have to look for flaws in her performance.

This movie will likely be available on the Fox Movie Channel. A no commercial channel that should be on your channel line-up.

And just think, Zorina was cast in the female lead in Paramount's huge, costly Technicolor epic, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" (1943). Director Sam Wood actually shot the first scenes in that epic with Zorina as "Maria" (opposite Gary Cooper as "Roberto"). Her foreign accent and her dark complexion might have seemed perfect for the Spanish heroine. But evidently Paramount's powers-that-be felt dissatisfied with Zorina in the female lead -- and replaced her with the blonde, blue-eyed Swedish actress, Ingrid Bergman, -- necessitating the re-shooting of all Zorina's scenes! One wonders whether that was the biggest disappointment in Zorina's entire career. -- Prof Steven P Hill, Cinema Studies, University of Illinois.
