Bad Miscasting, REALLY BAD!!!

Gary Grant a fine actor NEVER looked so bad as in this film. He cannot maintain in character, looks uncomfortable in period costume and sometimes seems to slip into his comedic routine. A routine more suitable for his appearance in sophisticated comedies with Irene Dunne and betrays the rest of a fine supporting cast.

What was needed was Flynn, Olivier or Tyrone Power. Even Douglas Fairbanks Jr. or Louis Hayward would have been more credible than Grant. Cannot imagine what the Director, Producer, Studio or Grant were thinking of when they committed to this project.

I totally agree. He was really out of step in this. It's as if he were preparing for his role in Arsenic and Old Lace.

myvarinka: Good point. What is surprising is the amount of reviews that give this a positive spin despite his obvious shortcomings in the role. We rated it four (4)****Stars. Some scenes are almost laughable.
