Touching Movie!

***Contains Spoiler***

I saw this little gem yesterday. It's the first and only Preston Sturges film I have seen so far, and oh my god what a movie. The story is really heartwarming, and though it not ends entierly happy, you'll get that warm feeling inside you. Muriel Angelus is simply wonderful and I wish she could be married to me.
I was always afraid that there was going to be a big shock of sentimentality at the end of the picture. But Sturges really knew how to end a script sweet, but with a flavour of seriousness that gets you thinking.

Can't wait to see his more praised movies like "Sullivan's Travels" and "The Lady Eve"

Same situations, same sentiments. Looking forward to more from Mr. Sturges.

I've just recently started watching the films of Preston Sturges and - wow! What smart, funny writing. I watched "The Great McGinty" and I had the exact same reaction to Muriel Angelus, I wish she was married to me. The first film of Sturges I saw was "Sullivan's Travels," which I really enjoyed, but my favorite so far was "The Lady Eve." You have to see it for Barbara Stanwyck's performance alone. I also recommend, although not as highly as the other 3 I mentioned, "The Miracle at Morgan Creek." Pretty racy for when it was made.

I thought the movie was great, but the ending felt a little empty to me. It would have been nice to see McGinty's family follow him out of the country. But I guess that would have made it no different than any of 1,000 other movies. Still, it was rather a sad ending, and unexpected.

I thought the ending's the best - instead of dishing out a conventional happy family reunion McGinty and The Boss just engage in yet another brawl in some dirty watering hole. Brilliant.
