McGinty On DVD?

So, does anyone know why this hasn't been released on DVD yet?

reply

According to DVD Times (1) it will be released as part of the "Preston Sturges Filmmaker Collection" November 21st. Also included will be Christmas in July, The Lady Eve, Sullivan's Travels, The Palm Beach Story, The Great Moment, and Hail the Conquering Hero. MSRP will be about $60, but you can preorder for around $45 at Amazon.com (2).

I'm really looking forward to this. I already have Sullivan's Travels, The Palm Beach Story, and The Miracle of Morgan's Creek on DVD. Sturges was a truly gifted writer.

I got the Sturges DVD set for Xmas and just watched "McGinty." The films are good, of course, and it's great to have them on DVD. But it's disappointing that there are no special features at all for any of the films. They aren't even divided into chapters!

It would be nice if Criterion would do a DVD of THE GREAT MCGINTY the way they did on Sturges' THE LADY EVE, SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS and UNFAITHFULLY YOURS; the one thing that really disappointed me about the new Preston Sturges box set was the complete and utter lack of extras for any of the films. (Well, that and the fact that THE MIRACLE OF MORGAN'S CREEK wasn't there; a Preston Sturges collection without MORGAN'S CREEK just isn't complete, in spite of the legal problems.)

There'll be a release in Germany in October (10/27/11) with a better quality than the US and UK DVD's...

Terrible disappointment. Seems like they ran out of story or money. Bad ending to a good movie.
