Banned in the USSR

As pointed out in the trivia question I had heard it was banned in the USSR. But I read somewhere once that it was actually shown in theatres there for propaganda purposes showing how rough life was in America but it backfired on them as the Russians saw it and even though they were poor the American's at least had a vehicle and their children all had shoes. After that it was banned.
