Time Wounds All Heels

At some point Groucho comments "Time wounds all heels", then looks slightly taken aback. Anyone know if this was a cock-up that made it to the final print?

reply

Pretty sure it's a joke. I loved the line right before then, "I didn't recognize you standing up."

What's the Spanish for drunken bum?

reply

I wouldnt think it was.
Groucho was a cunning linguist.
The play on words is something Groucho put into all his films/shows and books.

Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. Groucho Marx

You are also a cunning linguist. ;-)

He wasn't looking taken aback because of the line; he had just noticed the drunk at the table, was surprised, and immediately went over to talk to him, saying, "You know there's a drunk at the first table looks exactly like you?"

reply

Try "borracho."

reply

No, he's simply making a play on the phrase "time heals all wounds." A "heel" is something they called a bad person in those days.
