Leo Gorcey Has A Big Part

Contrary to what one IMDB reviewer said, Leo Gorcey has a big part in Gallant Sons. The four teenagers with big parts are Jackie Cooper, Bonita Granville (his girlfriend), Gene Reynolds, who is the main character, and Leo Gorcey. Admittedly, he is 4th, not the lead, but he still has a big part with lots of lines. In one place he is crucial to the plot, when he sells newspapers.

I usually find Leo a bit on the obnoxious side, and he is to some extent here, but not enough so to be unpleasant.

Also, contrary to what one reviewer said, I thought Miss Granville was fine. She is perky, but not annoying. The mutually respectful relationship she has with her mother is one of the nicer parts of the film, and rather unusual for its time.

The other big part is Gail Patrick, the driving force behind the Perry Mason (1957) TV show. She is absolutely stunning in this movie, and steals every scene she is in. If you like her here, catch her in My Man Godfrey (1936).
