Frances Farmer Miscast

I saw this film on TCM a couple of days ago. Frances Farmer was really miscast as the oilman's daughter. The role called for a really fiery and sprited actress and Frances was far too low-key for it. She displayed very little emotion, even in the love scenes with John Garfield. The movie would have much better with Claire Trevor, Anne Baxter or Susan Hayward in the lead female role.

Other than that, I thought it was a good movie. Garfield was his usual tough-guy-on-the-run-from-the-law and Pat O'Brien has little more than a supporting role.

It is something of a poor man's "Boom Town."
