One Sitting

All things are possible: I saw this entire thing in one sitting and I still danced all nite long!

I might eventually get the DVDs of the feature-length Flash films that were made by condensing the serials. So I could see 1 hour + of nonstop action in place of setup, cliffhanger, recap, and solution over and over for 4+ hours.

Didn't know they had those movies available.

I've watched the whole serial and it is an exercise in patience. I prefer the movie versions, which mostly condenses things to the main plot (though there are two different ones for this serial). Part of the problem of trying to watch a serial in one sitting, apart from length, is the repetiton of the chapter recaps, not to mention the sameness of many of the chapters. These things were more often than not padded out to get to 12 or 15 chapters. The Republic ones (at least the stuff from the late 30's and early 40s) tended to move at a faster pace, but they usually had a recap episode in the middle. However, serials like Dick Tracy, Masked Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Spy Smasher really hummed along. Zorro's Fighting Legion cruises at a good pace, too. The first Flash Gordon serial seems to be the liveliest, to me, though FG's Trip to Mars is my favorite, from a story standpoint.
