Loretta Young is fairly irritating....

At the opening of this movie, she is so shrill, self-satisfied, rude, and selfish that I really want to smack her.

Just wanted to get it off my chest.

Yes, but that's the point of the plot, being that although she said she was happy to be single, deep down she was frustrated and miserable and it came out in her behavior. There's a modern, very rude expression that would apply...

I agree and feel she was miscast; her role seems designed for Roz Russell or Jean Arthur. Russell had a self depreciating humor and Arthur a loveable pixie quality that would have softened the character. Young has neither, and being an exceptionally beautiful woman, fairly tall, and playing a capable career woman with no interest in love, she comes off in the first part of the film as being brittle, and another word that starts with b and ends with itch.

Then Loretta Young is perfectly cast. She is supposed to be obnoxious at the beginning of the movie so that she can turn into something else by the end.For easy markup in Firefox & Opera, see http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/42255
