Great movie for something from Republic

But in the hands of the great Raoul Walsh, it was bound to be great. Even with the typical Republic low budget, Walsh did great things. The script and story were outstanding, and with support from John Wayne, Claire Trevor and Walter Pidgeon, Walsh did an outstanding job.

I'm a little late commenting, but for the record if the Imdb estimate of $1 million for the production budget is anything like accurate then this is far from "the typical Republic low budget". B-westerns were being made at RKO, a much wealthier studio, around the same time for around $20,000 to $40,000. And Warners' medium budget A's were costing around $400,000 to $600,000.
