Mcgillicutty

Wondering if Lucy got here "last name" from this movie?

reply

Yeah, stevie, I thought the same thing, since she worked at RKO for years. BTW, it's McGillicuddy with d's and not t's. And it was her maiden name.

Just read this in the trivia section:

Lucille Ball and James Ellison were initially announced for the roles eventually played by Wendy Barrie and Gene Raymond.
Coincidence? She must have at least read the script.

In 1953 Lucie and Ricky made The Long, Long Trailer.

Also thought the same thing about Lucy's adapting the name and that sort of thing. Then you figure that in "Stage Door," there's "that man Carmichael," and in "Walking on Air," Ann Sothern hires Gene Raymond to play a French Count, so there do seem to be some coincidences between the film studio and the television production facility, hmmm  so maybe Desilu retained some of those great screenwriters from the old RKO days.

"Cross-Country Romance" (1940) has Gene Raymond at his very hottest, and it's good that RKO finally gave him that opportunity, but could you just imagine James Ellison in that barefoot scene? That would have been way too hot for words!
