Tank miniatures

Great tank miniatures at the end by A. Arnold Gillespie!

I just saw this movie for the first time in 2008. I loved the tank scenes. I model WW2 tanks and thought this movie was just awesome as far as the tank scenes. The miniatures were funny but very real looking except for the way they moved, which was too bouncy. Tanks are heavy and move slowly. They can not go that fast nor turn that quickly. Loved the interior tank shots as well!

True. Speeded up filming with miniatures of all kinds, planes, trains & ships was quite common in this era. Yes they all bounced way too lightly when they
en mass did their reversal at end of film.
Did you notice how over sized was their general's tank when it came into the
town? Knocked down gate and as moved thru the streets it was way out of
scale to the fleeing soldiers.
And those huge red Russian stars slapped on the sides of tanks. What a bullseye.
Sort of amazing how they could catch the surprise invasion/deal breaking by
Germans a year in advance. Nice sources & guesses there.
Also the miniatures made the general audiences think that maybe Russia was a
lot more prepared militarily than it really was. Tanks were a German speciality at the time so giving the Soviets even this group was a gift.
And she had been trained in their use. Talk about a People's Army. Yet they
couldn't keep the elevators running in hotel, or the cheap doors in place!
That was the real inside joke as to nature of Russia. Did like their 'advanced'
method of dealing with marriage & divorce. Could have use a couple of those
postcard mailings to break up myself.

How did they control the tanks? In the late 1930s did they already have radio-controlled motorized mechanisms that could make the tanks do 180-degree turns and all the rest of those maneuvers?

Interesting blog about early FX scroll down till you come to Comrade X. It explains some things.

I love movie special effects from back when it was a real art.

Man, I am disgusted...i went to that link that Shamrok1847-1 gave and one has to register either with Facebook or Pininterest, in order to view anything these days. I hate FB and do not want to enter another log in info with another password just to read something. It seems the entire internet is in Facebooks 'claws.
