20,000 Years in Sing Sing

I watched 20,000 Years in Sing Sing last night and the breakout reminded me of another movie, especially the prisoner falling to his death, the prisoner not wanting to go because it was unlucky...I had to seek help to track this down. I thought it was Burgess in my memory, I'm happy to see I was right.

Plotholes are like Bigfoot, people who claim to see them are just trying to stir things up.

Hi,
I realized the same thing as I watched 20,000 Years in Sing Sing. Like you, I found the "twin movie." Castle on the Hudson and 20,000 Years in Sing Sing are the same show - but different actors and director. Take your pick.

Aha...Robert Osborne just mentioned the twindom aspect of these films.

Actually, I don't usually like Tracy, but in this one he does shine quite a bit. Not the same old Spencer Tracy.

Another "twin movie" duo is: Public Hero #1 and THE GETAWAY. I have seen THE GETAWAY with Donna Reed. Another good prison action movie from yesteryear.

Seems that re-makes are nothing new to HollyRude.

Hi oldmotem,

I just watched 20,000 Years in Sing Sing. Robert Osborne selected it as a personal favorite of his and noted that Castle on the Hudson was a word-for-word, shot-for-shot remake. He also noted that the protagonist was especially written for James Cagney who didn't make the film because of a contract dispute with Warners. The same thing happened with Prisoner of the Zenda.

I was really thrilled by this film. I would love to watch the original.
