The comments regarding this film.

I totally disagree with the comments made regarding this film. I think James Stephenson makes a perfect Philo Vance. He is utterly charming and his diction is perfection. I must also say he is a superb looking gentleman. His rapport with the dog in the movie struck me as being so genuine that I thought perhaps it was really his dog. Good to see a person who really cares about animals in these early movies for a change. So sorry to see that he passed away at such an early age. He is certainly well remembered by me. He was exceptional in The Letter and was nominated for an award. I look forward to seeing all of the films he made before his untimely death !!!!!!!

Has anyone notice the when they changed "The Kennel Murder Case" to be a war film...they copied the opening of another William Powell film, "Private Detective 62"? Poor James Stephenson was hit by two Willam Powell comparisons!

That was a really obedient dog he had in this. It's good when an actor really bonds with the dog actor he is with in film scenes.
