I agree. Still a good movie but it takes away the enjoyment when they have off camera action.
shareIt may have something to do with the big shootout in Stagecoach from the previous year, a film that was quite successful...and it's never been uncommon for films to emulate what has gone before, especially if said earlier film was successful with moviegoers.
Stagecoach also had the final shootout off screen, you see John Wayne fire one shot as he's diving to the ground and the rest of the action is heard but not seen.
