The Brooch the Duchess gives to the governess

After accusing Bette of usurping her place, Madame la Duchesse sends a little peace offering to Bette. It is a brooch which appears to be a mythological beast with a dragon's head and the tail of a sea serpent with flowers in the middle.

Does anyone know what mythological beast this is supposed to be?

Not sure, but I would think either Joan Crawford or Miriam Hopkins.

I don't think for a minute that it was a gesture of good will. A dragon broach, no, it was meant to send a clear message that the Duchess thought the governess was the wicked one. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
