Just watched it for the first time in ages...the ending?

I think the movie suffered due to the 'happy' ending. I think it would have been monumentally good if Skinner Bill...is left dying in the desert after saving the young man. Kind of like, The Three Godfathers..with Chester Morris, Brennan and Stone...ten times more dramatic than the The 3 Godfathers with Wayne, Carey Jr, and Armendariz...what do you think.
