Release Date - Sept. 1, 1939

This is more than a little random, but did anybody notice the release date? It was the start of WWII. (Made me think of the Auden poem, actually. www.poemdujour.com/Sept1.1939.html) It's strange to think of this movie in that context, no?

This is indeed strange. If you think deeply enough about this, its pretty poignant that the film covers a period of about 2 years and nothing changes in their world. Would it have been as optimistic a movie had it been released a few months later?

reply

It probably would have been because I don't think much would have changed in their worlds. The husbands were probably in their mid to late 30's or early 40's - and hardly anything would have ruffled their snug little worlds.
