You're obviously too young to remember the song "The Darktown Strutter's Ball", whose opening line is:

I'LL BE DOWN TO MEET YA IN A TAXI, HONEY.....

I'm not old enough to remember Glenn Miller or Hank Williams Sr. but that dosen't mean I don't know their songs. I just don't understand how all this pertains to the film other than Ameche was in it.

For many years Don Ameche and the telephone were synomonous (sp). People would say "I called him on the Ameche". But the biggest compliment of all came from Groucho Marx, who in "Go West" proclaimed "Telephone? This is 1870. Don Ameche hasn't invented the telephone yet."
