Casting

I found this movie interesting. It seems that they had genuine location shots mixed in with Hollywood studio shots. For example the scene where Livingstone is taking care of the boy with the infection the children were African American. The choir were African Ameericans, it was so obvious by their mannerisms & Hairstyles & skin tone.

Not that interesting really. Head to Africa for the scenery and the animals. Head to Hollywood for the actors. Did you really expect the choir singing Onward Christian Soldiers to be actual Africans? For 1939, it's unusual enough that they even bothered to do any location shooting, even if that shooting didn't involve any actors (which is probably how they were able to afford to do it in the first place).
