Irrelevant ruminating on Gatewood's fate (SPOILERS)

How many think that Gatewood, the preening, arrogant hypocrite who absconded with his bank's money, will get a slap on the wrist for his crime?

Sure, he'll do a few years behind bars, but since the money WAS recovered he's likely to receive a more lenient sentencing and only do a few years time before being paroled; but what next for Gatewood?

His over-bearing wife probably won't divorce him (an extreme rarity in the 19th Century), and he will come home to that "battle-axe" almost certainly wishing he was still in prison; will likely find work on a lower paying scale than once enjoyed, by becoming a pencil-pushing grunt for financiers and bankers who won't give him any power or access to actual funds, ergo he can still be deemed "useful" in other sectors of the banking / financial industry.

So in a way, Gatewood's future prospects in life aren't as terrible as we might suppose, but naturally he will never be looked upon with the same regard as he was once afforded in his community. My guess is that he will ultimately pick up from where Doc Boone left off with the bottle and be dead and buried within five years of his parole -- but at least he'll FINALLY be free of his harpy of a wife!
