Hatfield's Gloves - why the stripes?

Hi all,

I have a question about the style of gloves that Hatfield is wearing. They're tan with three black stripes. You can see them clearly at about 36:50 when he is handing a cup of liquor to the lady.

They caught my eye because yesterday I saw the 1920 film "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligula" and the Dr. is wearing the same style gloves (though they're white and a bit puffier). Thinking further, I realize those are the same type of gloves Mickey Mouse wears, and he came out in 1928.

Since all these films are from the same era, I'm curious if anybody knows anything more about these gloves. What style are they? Why do they have the stripes? Do they represent a particular class or occupation? I tried searching on google, but vintage gloves doesn't seem to bring up anything similar - searching for gentlemen's gloves does bring up gloves with 3 stripes, though usually the same color as the glove.
