Racist as all heck.

It goes without saying. Incredibly racist and outdated film. Meh story, too.

This like so many westerns of the time is actually ABOUT race! The film itself isn't racist at all. People at the time wouldn't watch a movie about how African American's were treated, let alone show an interracial marriage. But there is an interracial marriage in this movie. Sure, the bad guys in the movie are indians, but not all indians in the movie are bad.

reply

Why? Because it doesn't show the Apaches as some sort of an hippie dream of a "noble savage"?

Ah, nice way to try and dodge around an explanation.

Incredibly racist and outdated

Sorry to ruin your politically correct version of Native Americans but many like the Apache and Comanche did rob, rape, torture and murder, so what's your point?

Meh story too

So "meh" it changed the western genre forever and set the tone for more personal and adult themes in them. You are an idiot.

Don't read my signature it will probably offend you 

Andy Devine said he was married to a Mexican girl, the Mexican who ran the stage coach stop was married to a Native American. Seems very diversified to me. Wacha think?

Well stated! Idiot trolls like him post monosyllabic slang to describe a film because he can't possibly understand any deeper connotation other than he didn't like it.
He has no idea how or why this movie "changed the western genre" and he's uninterested in personal or adult themes.
He actually thinks he shows off his intellectual prowess with his 'meh' description. But that just gives him away as a SILLY KID, whose opinion on ANY film has lost all credibility!

Ford was an honored guest with the Native Americans of Monument Valley, who welcomed him back for four more films, and named a view-point after him.

Yes, but Millennials are offended by his work, so he's obviously a racist piece of sh't whose remains should be dug up, pissed on and fed to the pigs. For social justice.

Methinks you're exaggerating. I don't blame you a bit. Your point makes no sense at all without flagrant exaggeration.

Janet! Donkeys!

Methinks you're exaggerating.

Indeed, old chap, it was an exaggeration for humorous effect.

Your point makes no sense at all without flagrant exaggeration.

My point is that some people (not necessarily just Millennials) enjoy pissing on the legacies of artists because said people either lack or don't want to apply any kind of historical perspective. They judge everyone and everything by the current zeitgeist and current social norms, thereby crucifying anyone who isn't as "enlightened" as them as despicable bigots and denouncing their work.

Feel free to argue this point, but don't tell me that it doesn't make sense. It's precisely what happened to H.P. Lovecraft and the World Fantasy Award, and it's constantly happening with artists like Sam Peckinpah and Mark Twain.

The OP is either a troll or ignorant, but depiction of Native Americans in movies are an interesting subject.
Nowadays, if you write an evil movie character as belonging to an ethnic minority, there'll always be a crowd yelling "Hate crime!" But it doesn't help. Why should Native Americans be "peace and love" guys when movies of all kinds are littered with evil Caucasian characters? Not to mention that the Indians in the movie were protecting their territory. If you are an indigenous tribe that relies on its land, with its water, plant and animal life, you don't want it to be taken away from you. So-called civilized countries solved such problems with warfare, so why would it be racist to show indigenous people doing the same?

You may cross-examine.

The OP betrays his woefully shallow critical thinking skills for the sophomoric, uninformed and sjw tripe that are his unsubstantiated statements.

People like the OP are the reason why Hollywood almost never makes Westerns any more, and the very few times when they do, Indians are never featured.

Thanks for killing a genre, buddy!

England has Shakespeare.

India and Bollywood can make any film they like that's set in any era of thier classical history.

The Italians and Greeks have made movies based on their Graeco-Roman mythology and ancient conquering heroes like Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar.

Japan has its Samurai-ronin-feudal era genre of cinema.

But Americans are damned if they do and damned if they don't at every turn, and can't even make a stupid picture that draws on THEIR heritage and classical eras without stirring up the indignation and wrath of history revisionists, politically correct zealots, and sjws.
