I think they were all supposed to take place in the nineteenth century but suspended disbelief on that point

Nope, that doesn't add up. In the beginning of The Wolf Man, Larry Talbot is a passenger in a car. And that films universe is connected to this universe. Its a plot hole and a massive one at that

The year a movie is made has nothing to do with when the movie's events take place.
