Don't like to compare this w\the first 2 Karloff's as it stands on its own originality;

I know about the genius of Whale but,hey,R.Lee did it proper !

Can you dig the German exptressionism?

How about the incomparable Atwill as the Inspector ? One of his best roles.

...and Igor portrayed by Lugosi is the best and strongest of all the roles here !

Bela rises to the occasion w\the craggy voice,the evil-ness in his psyche and those rapacious teeth and reminds us what an actor he is not playing his stock character in too many poor "c"movies he did for a buck !

Hail Basil,Boris,Bela -and Atlantis !

I agree I honestly can't stand the original and especially Bride. I still shocked that Bride is considered a classic. But Son Of Frankenstein is fantastic in my opinion.

I like the first two better but this is still a very good film. It still has a very good atmosphere and feels like one of the Hammer Frankenstein movies which is a good thing.

Bride is the best but Son is close --- and if Son added Ernest Thesiger it would have been #1 ... Frankenstein (1931) was great but not in the class of 2 and 3 ...

Yes, this movie has true class. And I agree, Lugosi's grotesque is totally believable. His crippleness is palpable.

I find the 1931 original the best, with Son the second best. Bride is too fey and self-indulgent despite its striking moments, cast and production values. Rowland V. Lee did the near impossible with Son: he made an entry in a franchise that also happens to be a superb, stand alone film as a great film. It's a true original (the excellent Wyllis Cooper screenplay, the actors, the Gothic art direction all make it stand out and apart from other entries in the 1931-45 Uni franchise).

"Son of Frankenstein" is the best of the original three.
