Song title, please help

Does anyone know the name of the song played right after the credits, right after "Directed by Raoul Walsh," and during the "prologue" by Mark Helinger? It's not "I'm Just Wild About Harry," and it's not "Melancholy Baby." I love this song, and it also is played briefly in the movie "Lady in the Dark," and it must be a 1920s standard, but I can never find a way to identify it. Thanks.

The song is "JUST A MEMORY".

I dont think I know many of the lyrics-

Days I knew, with you
Are just a memory, just a memory, blah blah

Sweet old tune.

My God, thank you so much. I've wondered about that song for years. It was also used briefly in a musical called "Lady in the Dark" as background music. I think it's a lovely tune. Now I can look for it on iTunes! Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Wow! Glad I knew it for you. It is a lovely tune...and perfectly chosen for it's place during the Hellinger prologue.

You should be able to find numerous recordings....if not, try Youtube. Lots of guys like to simply play their old 78 rpm records on video.

Ah-"Just A Memory"-One of the great output of the deSylva,Brown,Henderson, trio in the 20's.

I always thought this ballad was one of their best, and enjoyed that others also appreciated it.

Exactly, donofthedial. Well put. The melody is bittersweet, sentimental, and haunting. And perfectly placed.

A vocal version can be heard within the first 4 minutes of the DeSylva, Brown, and Henderson biopic "The Best Things in Life are Free" (1956), a forgotten, but pleasant musical from 20th Century Fox:

Just a thought, if you want to hear the song sung, try George Stevens' PENNY SERENADE. It's in the beginning, where Irene Dunne's character is playing records and begins to reminisce about her relationship with her estranged husband (Cary Grant).

PENNY SERENADE is available on Youtube:
