Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I wonder if Charlie Kaufman who wrote Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind had seen this movie on late night TV!

reply

I thought that same thing, the plots have a similar basis. I did enjoy Eternal Sunshine, it was very creative and had additional plot twists that were interesting.

Well Kaufman I think is dead. But I am sure the writer of Spotless mind had this movie in mind. I have to say I like this much better. Jim Carrey is a pale comparison to Robert Taylor. And the supporting cast is better. What comes to mind is another I lost my memory movie with Greer Garson, but it was much more serious and one of the best movies I ever saw. Random Harvest with Ronald Coleman.

Oh I loved Random Harvest too. One of my very favorites.
But you must read the book written by James Hilton. It's better (if you can believe that!) and you can see Greer Garson and Ronald Colman as you read. Perfect casting for the film. Libraries have the book as it's considered a classic.

I am in to reading Somerset Maugham now. He is very interesting. And his stories translate pretty good to the screen. Hilton is my next author to tackle again.

I would agree with you, Random Harvest is by far a better picture, I love Greer Garson.

She is one of my favorites too. I never saw her in a bad role. I just saw her in another Hilton based movie the other day. Goodbye Mr Chips. Another one of my favorites. It reminds me of the school I went to. It was a all girls Convent school and a lot of the nuns spend all of their lives teaching at that school. And they were very devoted. Some reminded me of Mr Chipping. Just the other day one of my teachers had died she was 97 and she spent 75 years there.

I would have to say Mrs. Miniver is probably my all time favorite, with Walter Pidgeon and the beautiful Teresa Wright. Garson and Pidgeon were like Powell and Loy; just a perfect chemistry.

That's a very special story, about your teacher and her devotion. Thank you for sharing that.

I have to say I enjoyed this more than Random Harvest. Maybe because of the humour, idk. But I have only seen Random Harvest once, and I suspect it might be the kind of movie you should see more than once to appreciate it fully.

Charlie Kaufman the screenwriter and director is well and alive. He's the screenwriter of Human Nature, Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And he wrote and directed Synecdoche, New York.

Thanks for the heads up.
