John the Baptist

It's been months since you asked the question, but I hope this will help. It's the eavesdropping servant of George Brent's character, who appears early in the film. I didn't realize his name was John the Baptist, but I see that he's played by Abner Biberman, a character actor who somewhat resembles Edward G. Robinson. You can spot him in many Golden Age films as minor gangsters and all-purpose ethnics. In Gunga Din, he's really both: the main henchman of the Thuggee cult leader. He's quite an intimidating figure, himself. His hoarse, echoing call of "Kaliiiiii!" will probably stay with you after the movie's over.
