Movie girl: I think the storyline is very profound and of course the special effects were wonderful even for today's films! I did like the romance between George and Brenda's characters, but even more so between Loy and Power. I was really struck by the slow beginning of it when he translates a beautiful Indian love song for her. She is a married woman to a man with a title and had been an old flame of George Brent. (It seems evident that she does not care for her husband, but had married him for a title and the money).
Later Lady Esketh becomes a nurse and works very hard to help people during the disaster of the storm and the resultant tidal wave. Her husband is among those lost in the disaster.
Lady Esketh now realizes her great love for Rama and tells him that she had done everything she could to make him notice her, but he never had. In the past she had been able to attract any man she wanted.
He tells her that he had noticed and admired her, but his medical work and position had precluded a serious involvement. Nevertheless, he now confesses his great respect and mutual love for this lady who had willingly helped save many lives during the disaster. Sadly, tragedy strikes just moments later.
