Surprised there's no thread on the remake:The Rains of Ranchipur

I saw "The Rains Came" today for the first time. But I've seen the remake , " The Rains of Ranchipur " (1955) about 10 times this year on the FOX movie channel. It starred:

Lana Turner ... Lady Edwina Esketh
Richard Burton ... Dr. Major Rama Safti
Fred MacMurray ... Thomas "Tom" Ransome
Joan Caulfield ... Fern Simon
Michael Rennie ... Lord Albert Esketh
Eugenie Leontovich ... Maharani
Gladys Hurlbut ... Mrs. Simon
Madge Kennedy ... Mrs. Smiley

I'm sure they'll now be showing both versions together at times like they do with "I Wake Up Screaming" and its remake, "Vicky". There were a few changes to the story too especially the ending. Also the scenes showing all the flooding, earthquakes and dam breaks caused by the rains were much better than those shown in the 1955 version.Go figure.

Leading the blind squirrels of inquiry to the lost nuts of illumination.

update.....well i rented the newer one w/lana turner, etc. what a different ending that was!!! didn't expect that at all. i didn't quite get some of the emotions...they seemed so overrated and stupid. i'm not sure if it was the directing but i found the movie hardly had any closeups of anyone...so unlike the original. you really never got a real good look at any of the faces

she may have been in love but not enough to give up her lifestyle and she was still very selfish when it came to the scene about the dr. staying across the river to help save lifes. what a selfish person that was so she didn't change at all in the end.

At the time it was released, the 1955 version, it was considered a bomb and justly so. There are some films that should not be remade.
