I love this movie but...

Why did Pud have to die? I mean, I guess it was good that he did because then he would be with Gramps and not have to be alone. But jeez, he was only a little boy. And he only fell out of a tree! Why was it written that way?

Why does any child have to die? only fell out of a tree!!! well children have died falling off a step..yes really lol. ok he was taken because the injuries he sustained in that lil ol fall from the tree broke his back and it was a fatal injury but of course he couldnt die while mr brink was trapped so he suffered all the pain without the release and relief of death. mr brink collected him just as he collected any other fatality...by doing so he did pud a kindness because he was at least able to be with the one person he loved and who loved him..his grandpa...plus he would then reunite with his parents and grandma. simple lol.For any one who is trying to get this on dvd please take a look at my list of old classics and newer films here www.dvdclassix.bravehost.com

Indeed, he had to die in order for the film to have a truly happy ending, otherwise I could see it being like the end of The Champ or The Clown, little boy heartbroken because the only person who's ever cared for him, has died on him and he's left behind to pick up the pieces alone.

And, it went to serve the purpose of proving the point of WHY it was important Mr. Brink come down from the tree because the world was full of people like Pud who were in never-ending pain and couldn't be relieved of it.

After giving this a lot of thought today it became clear the boy was going to Die anyway. Only people who were close to death could see Mr. Brink.

I remember the first time I saw this film a few years ago I was the same way WHY DID PUD HAVE TO DIE. and remember being bugged for the longest time because of the ending. But today even though the movie stayed with me and in my Mind for the rest of the day I did see clear as to the hint that Pud was going to die soon.

Still one of the Saddest movies I have ever seen as to emotion and the terms of loss.

He wouldn't have been up the tree but for death luring him up there! Very disturbing twist. Very cruel.

Please warn people that you are going to spoil the film for them if they read your comments.

In the film, death isn't portrayed as such a bad thing. It appeared that the afterlife is a pretty happy place. So it's not so sad after all. It would have been sadder if Pud had been left behind without his grandfather, he seemed to be very upset at the possibility of that happening.
